Bike Meet @ Margate
Newspaul4d writes "
Anyone interested in bikes might like to make a trip to Margate this bank holiday. There is a meet planned for charity events and they are expecting 50,000 bikes! Mind you, the weather will probably decide the numbers. :)

See here for more details....
http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/default.aspx

I will try to get there if I can but my bike has just developed a split in the exhaust...:( Should be fixed next Tuesday if all goes to plan.

I have a ZX1100 by the way, I'll send Ratty a few pics and see if he would be  kind enough to post them on the end of this post for me. ( thanks in advance Rob, I owe you another breakfast! )

edit: Sorry about the lateness of submission, only just read emails! Will addd photos later on today...."

What a difference a "clay" makes!
Newspaul4d writes "Hello all, decided to have a go at restoring the paint work on a family members run-around. This little fiat has the worst oxidation you are likely to see, the dreaded red paint that has turned pink.

Anyway, £64 at Halfords and 4 hours work.....so far I have done the Bonnet and the two Front Wings. Plenty to do but the results make it worth doing I think.

Anyone else have a car that needs doing? I am getting into this now. :) I have been quoted at £500 for a respray and £300 for a "mopping", paint restoration is an expensive business unless you have a go yourself of course!

I'll send a few before-and-after shots to Rob and see if he can host them on his server for me.....if they appear below you know he has, if not send me an email and I will get them to you.

Windows Seven
System Upgrade66gixer writes "Do you love Vista? You need to try Seven! Any of you running the 7 beta? I have just installed it on all three of my laptops and it is fantastic, I've had several system crashes...AVG on an upgraded system is a pain but ok on a fresh install. VNC seems reluctant to run and a couple of other little quirks but as this is a beta it's to be expected...... "

Sky and PIN codes.
NewsWe switched over to one of the movie channels last night and was asked to enter our PIN number. The movie in question was '12' rated! The settings I have in place mean that only a PIN code is required to allow the viewing of an '18' rated film. I checked my other selections and sure enough I haven't imposed the same limitations on '12' and '15' rated films.

I did some 'googling' (is that a word?!) on the subject and found that Sky have restricted viewing of the latter rated films before 8pm regardless of your own restrictions; after 8pm they work fine.

We don't really watch films that much on Sky, to be honest, and I decided this morning to cancel the movie channels from my package. The reason I gave Sky was that I prefer it if my option to govern what is watched on my tv is respected rather than Sky imposing their restrictions on me. The answer I got was quite interesting. Apparently, it's against the law to show 'X' rated films with a '12' or '15' rating before the watershed! Erm... is it just me or does 'X' rated imply an '18' rating to you? What is the point of a board of people sitting down and rating a film suitable for an age group when Sky will decide it for you?! When I suggested that that was utter rubbish the Sky representative (called Ryan, fyi) became quite abrupt and even to the point of rude. Perhaps Ryan should realise that I'm not personally attacking him, I'm airing my opinions regarding Sky's dictatorial methods of viewing control! I do still have that right, don't I?!

Well, I couldn't be bothered to argue my point so I told him just to cut the movies from my package. He did say that as a long running customer I could get a 20% discount on the price I pay for the movie package for the next 6 months. Funny, they didn't let me know that before I complained! Anyway, I didn't take him up on his offer and it's cut the cost from £47.50 to just £21.50!

I'm off to buy the films I want on DVD with the money I've saved... and I can watch them before Sky airs them. :)

New User Registrations.
PHP-NukeI have now implemented a change to the new user registration process. Aside from the graphic code that is required, a new user will require admin approval first before he/she can gain full access to this site.

It's a pain in the butt but unfortunately it's become necessary due to the stupid spammers out there who have found ways of automating their bots to log on and fill the site with X rated spam.

I would think that this form of registration will become quite a common thing soon as more and more website owners get fed up cleaning up unwanted rubbish from their sites.

News: Christmas
NewsWell, I hope you all had a great Christmas, I did. :)

Boxing day hasn't worked out quite so well. Got Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009 for the Wii for Christmas, along with a couple of golf clubs. Had a game yesterday and it's great fun. Unfortunately, one of the golf clubs seemed to shatter when Helen's dad tee'd off yesterday so he's had to play with a headless club!

Today, we set about another couple of rounds of golf. The first game went well (because I won today, I lost on the 18th hole yesterday)! The second game had some moments... like the batteries went flat in my controller just as it looked like I was going to get a hole in one! The ball teetered on the edge of the hole and a message appeared on the screen saying that my controller was disconnected! I quickly replaced the batteries but I think the pause stopped my ball, it didn't go in!!!! Ah well, it was close, reported as centimeters from the hole. A couple of holes later and I tee'd off with a cracking shot... unfortunately it was my golf club's turn to break, and it flew straight into the screen on my £1000 40" LCD TV. No, it didn't survive, we now have no telly. :(

Will phone Comet tomorrow morning and test out their extended warranty which is supposed to cover any accidental or otherwise breakage. I hope the salesman was telling me the whole truth when he sold me the policy otherwise he'll be visiting the hospital to have a broken golf club removed from part of his anatomy.

News: Watch out - GAMESTAR PRO website
NewsIt's a long time since I've written anything on here but not getting many visitors sort of means that there's not much point. However, this bit of news I want to publish anyway. It's about a company called GAMESTAR PRO (www.gamestarpro.co.uk). I note that my site comes up quite quickly in Google with certain keywords so perhaps some new interest will be generated! :)

I did a search for a Nintendo DS Lite which I wanted to buy for someone for Christmas. After the usual Google searches I found a site with a bundle deal which was very attractive. I tried to place an order but I received a message saying that I'd entered my details incorrectly. I thought I may have made a mistake but sure enough, once again, same error reported. I sent a message through their web messaging system, as they have no phone number to call, asking them what's going on. Guess what, a week later and no replies.

So, why am I writing this now? Well, I've just received a call from Egg (we all know who Egg are, don't we?!). They asked me to confirm a couple of transactions, one for £1 as a test transaction and another for £366.90. Guess what? I've bought nothing! So I have now had to get my card blocked and have a new card sent out. Now, what would you be thinking if it happened to you? Probably the same as me, I suspect!

If anyone from GAMESTAR PRO happens to read this then perhaps you'd like to contact me and clear it up. It's quite likely that the two aren't connected but I must admit, a company who don't respond to their messages promptly after taking my card details don't inspire confidence in me when I get phone calls from my card company telling me my card is being used without my consent.

Hobbies
PHP-Nuke66gixer writes "Hello all, hope you are all well.

I decided to get onto YouTube and upload a few videos, started with a couple of short clips I made with my phone the other day. I have decided to get on and learn the electric guitar....finally! I went along and bought a guitar and amp from that little music shop in Cheriton ( great little shop ) and got Rob to road test it for me...

Video 1
Video 2

Thanks for the demo Rob, atleast I know it can sound good even if it sounds like a cat in a bear-trap when I play it.

I will be on a car track day at Lydden in November so I should have a few more vids from that, see me crashing my brothers Saxo no doubt.

More vids to follow.
Paul. "
